LINDEN — Kylie Swanson, a fifth-grader at Sequoia Village School, was recently awarded the 2016-17 Edkey K-6 Student of the Year Award.

Edkey Inc. is the corporate name encompassing all the Sequoia Schools in Arizona. Each of the 18 Edkey schools nominated one student from the many that are enrolled. Requirements included a principal recommendation, high GPA, good attendance record and that each nominee would write a 500 word essay.

Kylie Swanson started kindergarten at Sequoia Village School and has excelled each year. She has also had nearly perfect attendance since starting school in 2012. Her hobbies include playing basketball, riding her bike, reading, playing on her iPad, and helping animals.

Kylie is very involved in the community and has been part of the Girl Scouts, Cleaning up the Park and Show Low Lake, and many activities at Sequoia Village School.

Kylie is good with animals and aspires to be a veterinarian when she grows up. She enjoys volunteering her time walking dogs at Pet Allies.

She is in Larry Nicholl's 5-6 combined class and loves school. Her favorite subject is art, and she is a good friend to everyone.

Mindy Savoia, M.Ed, is principal of Sequoia Village School in Linden.
