Local students earn science fair awards

SNOWFLAKE — The Navajo County Education Service Agency held March 4 the sixth annual Regional Science and Engineering Fair at the Performing Arts Center at Northland Pioneer College in Snowflake.

Students entered 120 projects from the following schools: Alchesay High School, Blue Ridge Elementary, Blue Ridge Middle, Concho, Ganado Middle, Holbrook Junior, Homeschool, Hulet Elementary, Joseph City Junior High, Linden Elementary, Nikolaus Homestead, Round Valley Middle, Sequoia Village, Show Low Junior High, Show Low High, St. Anthony Catholic and Taylor Intermediate.

Northland Pioneer College awarded a free voucher for STEM Kid's College for all participants in grades 4-8. NPC also granted a $500 scholarship to high school winner: Amanda Paxson from Alchesay High School.

The first place winners in grades fifth through high school were given a $50 cash card to assist with going to the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair scheduled for April in Phoenix.

The following are the list of local winners:

Animal Sciences: 1. Trevor Greer, St. Anthony; 2. Adryanna Leatherwood, St. Anthony; Sophie Dehombreaux, Blue Ridge Middle; 3. Erica Adams, Sequoia Village; Marissa Lee, Ganado Middle.

BioChemistry: 2. Kylie Baha, Blue Ridge Elementary; Lanae Iannucci, Sequoia Village; Connor Clark, Concho; 3. Alexandrya Bowler, Holbrook Junior High.
